Bound For Launch is not only the climax of the Outbounders' arc but also a mission packed with combat, defense objectives, and some emotional send-offs. Make sure you're stocked on Borderlands 4 Boosting ammo and have a solid elemental weapon ready, since you'll be facing multiple waves of Rippers-some carrying launchers.
Step 1: Meet Rush at The Launchpad
The mission begins with Rush, the Outbounders' fiery leader, south of The Launchpad. Now that the Order no longer poses a major threat to Kairos, Rush is ecstatic to move forward with the launch preparations. The salvaged ship, pieced together from wreckage and scavenged tech, is finally ready to fly-if you can help defend it.
After picking up the quest, Rush sends you on an errand to track down Conway, an engineer whose nerves are fraying under the pressure.
Step 2: Find Conway and Collect Rhodes' Tools
Check your map for Conway's marker-he's just north of The Launchpad, hiding out in a barn. Inside, you'll find Conway pacing and clearly rattled by the enormity of what's about to happen. Calm his nerves through dialogue, and in return, he'll hand over Rhodes' toolbox, an essential item for the ship's repairs.
Before you can head back, Rush radios in: the base is under attack. The Rippers aren't ready to give up the Outbounders' ship without a fight.
Step 3: Defend the Launchpad from Rippers
Return to The Launchpad with the toolbox, and you'll arrive in the middle of a full-blown Ripper assault. Waves of enemies will crash against the Outbounders' defenses. Expect melee rushers and a few gunmen-crowd-control weapons or AoE skills shine here.
Once the area is secure, place the toolbox next to Rhodes on the elevator lift. With repairs underway, the Outbounders prepare for the next phase-only for Rush to warn you that the Rippers are sending even more troops.
Step 4: Escort Conway and the Flight Crew
Your next task is to retrieve Conway again, this time along with the rest of the ship's flight crew. You'll find them cowering behind a tractor at a nearby farm.
Clear the enemies swarming the area and rally the crew. From here, an escort mission begins: you must lead Conway and the crew safely back to The Launchpad. Along the way, expect multiple ambushes. Rippers will attack in waves, trying desperately to prevent the launch. Use choke points to your advantage and keep an eye out for crew members who can get stuck if enemies are left alive too long.
Once you reach The Launchpad, Conway and the crew board the elevator lift, preparing to enter the ship. Take a moment here-the game frames this as a heartfelt farewell.
Step 5: Stop the Launcher Meatheads
Of course, the Rippers aren't finished yet. Rush alerts you to one last, desperate assault: Launcher Meatheads have arrived. These heavy units are equipped with rocket launchers aimed directly at the ship. If left unchecked, they can destroy the vessel before it even launches.
Focus fire on the three Meatheads as a top priority, using cover to avoid splash damage. Once they're down, mop up the rest of the Ripper forces. The tension is high here, but surviving this wave ensures the ship has a chance to take off.
Step 6: Initiate the Launch Sequence
With the battlefield clear, follow Rush to the nearby farm where the launch controls are located. This is your moment to shine-hit the button and watch as the ship powers up and ascends into the sky.
The cutscene is equal parts triumphant and comedic. The Outbounders finally realize their dream of escaping Kairos, while Claptrap, in typical fashion, shows up with a fully packed backpack just a minute too late, whining about missing his "space vacation."
Rush, overwhelmed with gratitude, thanks you for everything. Helping the Outbounders live up to their name marks the close of their story, and the mission ends with rewards rolling in.
Rewards and Extras
At mission completion, you'll receive:
A large XP payout
Cash for your trouble
A Rare or Epic weapon (randomized loot)
Vault Hunter Head Customization ("Down and Outlaw")
Eridium
Additionally, be sure to check your Inventory. You'll receive a bonus reward chest containing an extra Borderlands 4 Gear and cosmetics. Finally, completing this mission unlocks the Pale Blueberry Dot trophy/achievement, signifying the conclusion of the Outbounder faction storyline.
Final Thoughts
Bound For Launch is one of the standout missions in Borderlands 4, not just for its chaotic firefights but for the sense of closure it brings. The Outbounders' arc ends on a hopeful note, offering both emotional payoffs and practical rewards for your Vault Hunter. Between escorting crew members, fending off Ripper ambushes, and taking down rocket-wielding heavies, the mission blends action and storytelling into a satisfying finale.
If you've followed the Outbounders since their introduction, watching the ship disappear into buy Borderlands 4 Boosting the stars feels like a well-earned victory-for them, and for you. |
